LockDown Browser - Chromebook (Beta)

Respondus has released a beta version of the LockDown Browser for Chromebooks. Since this is a beta version, please be aware that some features may not be available or may not work correctly.

Known Issues

The following are currently known issues/limitations of the Chromebook LockDown beta.

  • Quiz passwords (specified via the "optional password" field in the LockDown Browser Dashboard) aren’t currently supported.
  • The “Early Exit” feature in LockDown Browser isn’t currently supported.
  • LockDown Browser’s Calculator and Spreadsheet features aren’t currently supported.
  • The extended keyboard functions (for adding symbols and special characters) isn’t currently available.
  • LockDown Browser’s “Help Center” is currently unavailable.
  • "Allow access to specific external web domains" option is currently not supported.


The Chromebook version of RLDB is installed as an extension in the Browser rather than a separate application.

  1. Go to the UM-Flint download link for LockDown Browser.
  2. You will be redirected to the Chrome Web Store page.
  3. Click Add to Chrome to install the LockDown extension.

Launch a Test

  1. Once installed, you can navigate to Blackboard and access your test like normal.
  2. When you click the Begin button, the LockDown Browser extension will automatically launch.
  3. Once you submit the test, click OK on the test summary screen.
  4. When you reach the test review page to see any feedback provided by your instructor, you can exit the browser by clicking the X in the top right corner or by clicking the OK button at the bottom of the page.
