Adding a File to a Content Area

Adding a File to a Content Area

You can use the File content type to create a simple link to a file in a course area. No description appears with the link. You can choose whether users view it as a page within the course or in a separate browser window.

To add a file within your course:

  1. Access the content area where you want the file to appear.
  2. Hover over Build Content.
  3. Choose Create > File.

There will now be multiple ways to attach the desired file:

Uploading a file from your Computer
  1. Type a Name for the file. You can overwrite the file name that automatically appears in the box. This name appears in the course area as a link.
  2. You can also select the font color.
  3. Click Browse My Computer and navigate to your file on your local computer. After you have selected a file, you can click “Select a Different File” to delete the file you linked and replace it with another if needed.
  4. Select Yes for Open in New Window to display the content in a new browser window outside of the course’s content frame.
  5. Enter file options including Date and Time Restrictions if desired.
  6. Click Submit.

Uploading a file from your Content Collection
  1. Click Browse Content Collection.
  2. Locate file within Content Collection pop-up window.
  3. Click the Radio Button next to the file name.
  4. Click Submit.
  5. Type a Name for the file. You can overwrite the file name that automatically appears in the box. This name appears in the course area as a link.
  6. Select the font color and select Yes for Open in New Window to display the content in a new browser window outside of the course’s content frame.
  7. Enter file options including Views, and Date/Time Restrictions.
  8. Click Submit.
