Medical Billing and Coding Program

Medical billing and coding professionals keep records, calculate patient charges and reveiw files. Medical Coders are responsible for the collection of physician charges and patient data to ensure that claims submitted to insurance carriers accurately and in the most effecient and expeditious manner. Additionally, Medical Coders determine codes used for physician procedures and diagnosis--using ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding protocols--for third party billing purposes.

In this course you will learn the details necessary to pursue a career as an insurance coding specialist. Course content encampasses documentation guidelines and legal issues affecting insurance claims and medical records. Students will learn the basics of health insurance and procedural coding through an introduction to CPT Manual, diagnosis coding, CPT Modifiers, E and V Codes and Late Effects, and much more.

This entry level course does not require the use of a computer as the focus of a coding professional is the proper use of coding and the related coding manuals. After completing this course, students could be qualified to sit for the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) - Certified Professional Coder Exam (CPC or CPC-H - Apprentice); the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA); Certified Coding Associate (CCA) exam; and/or other National Certification Exams.

 Pharmacy Technician Certification Program

Pharmacy Technicians work in pharmacies under the direction of a pharmacist. Their main responsibility is filling prescriptions according to doctor's orders. This generally includes retrieving drugs int he correct dosage form and strength, measuring the appropriate amount of drug and producing a prescription label. Other duties may include checking inventories and order supplies, assisting customers, completing insurance forms, and keeping the pharmacy work areas clean.

This course will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board's PTCB's exam. Course content includes medical terminology specific to the pharmacy, reading an interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Students will learn dosage calculations, I.V. flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement. The course includes a graded final exam to help prepare students for the PTCB exam.

Physical Therapy Aide

The purpose of physical therapy is to restore loco-motor function to the human body through alleviating and correcting movement dysfunction. Physical Therapy has become a valuable part of total patient care and rehabilitation. Physical Therapy Aides, under the direction and supervision of a physical therapist, assist with specific components of treatment intervention.

This comprehensive 50-hour Physical Therapy Aide Program prepares students for the growing field of Physical Therapy. Students be introduced to Physical Therapy through the history and evaluation of Physical Therapy. They will also learn the role of the PT aide in the rehabilitation team, the ethical and legal issues affecting the PT aide, anatomical position, structures of the musculoskeletal system and function of each, basic anatomy, medical terminology, range of motion excercises, ambulation and gait training, and stretching and direction of movement.

Students will also perform and be evaluated on common clinical skills necessary to function as a physical therapy aide including patient positioning and transfer, use of transfer belt, ambulation using crutches/walker and cane, range of motion exercises and obtaining accurate vital signs.

Please Note: This program is intended to train students for entry level Physical Therapy Aide positions or to prepare students for a more formal longer term program.
