Perfect for K-12 teachers, this 18-credit, interdisciplinary certificate program enables all students to explore all aspects of history and culture as they pertain to Africa and people of African descent. It is geared toward those who serve African American communities, organizations such as the NAACP, National Urban League and Flint Area Coalition to End Racism, community schools, government and civic organizations.

Students must take at least one course in each of the following clusters:

  • General introductory courses
  • Economics, politics, religion and philosophy
  • Education, psychology and social work
  • History
  • Language and literature
  • Art, music and dance.

There is an online course in each category, so the entire certificate can be earned online. Or, students may prefer the convenience of evening, Saturday and weekday course scheduling!
